Urban hideaway with Graphic Concrete in the heart of London

Viewpoint offers Londoners a chance to escape the hectic city life on a unique man-made hide-away isle in Camley Street Natural Park, London Wildlife Trust’s most central nature reserve. This permanent floating platform, designed by the emerging Finnish architects Erkko Aarti, Arto Ollila & Mikki Ristola (AOR), is the result of the Finland-UK Exchange Programme, delivered by The Architecture Foundation together with the Finnish Institute in London and the Museum of Finnish Architecture in Helsinki. The the architects were inspired by the Finnish "Laavus", traditional shelters intended for temporary residence during fishing and hunting trips.
Graphic Concrete slabs, cast by Cambridge Architectural Precast, form the base of the structure. The playful animal track pattern acting as both a decorative tool and slip prevention.
