The Finnish Concrete Association ( Betoniyhdistys ry) awarded Helsingin Viuhka Housing building with the Concrete Construction of the Year 2016 award at Concrete Seminar on January 19th, 2017.
The jury describes the award-winning high-rise building as a prestige landmark of Vuosaari, one of the eastern neighbourhoods in Helsinki, Finland. By knowledgeable use of concrete and seamless co-operation between each of the organisations involved, the result is a structurally successful and expressive architectural concept.
Manufactured by Betonimestarit Oy, graphic concrete has been used in the facades of the building in two different ways: GCSmooth™ offering the soft and even surface, and a unique repeating pattern combining a ready-made pattern Mosaic Ellipse and stripes of different widths. The end result is harmonic whether viewed up close or from a distance. The balcony elements have been manufactured by Parma Oy.We are happy to have been able to witness innovative ideas come to life. Thanks to Konkret Architects and congratulations to all parties involved!
